Elegant and lush in cherry, huckleberry and cassis, the 2011 Johanna Cabernet Sauvignon offers further complexities ranging from baking spices and savory herbs to hints of mint and violet. On the palate, the fruit remains fresh and bright, and powdery tannins frame a saturated mid palate that builds through to a long, fine finish. This limited bottling Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the graceful wine that resulted from our select mountain vineyards in the cooler 2011 vintage.

Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Coombsville and Rutherford contributed to the majority of the 2012 Oroppas blend, along with hillside fruit from Diamond Mountain, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain creating a unique and sophisticated expression of Napa Valley. Each varietal and vineyard lot was aged separately for nineteen months until the final wine was blended just before bottling, and a small percentage of Petit Verdot and Merlot was blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon, contributing soft tannins and bright red fruit notes.

Dark red cherry, spice, plum and menthol flesh out in an open, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon that captures the immediacy and raciness of the vintage. From a cool climate vineyard, it showcases the elegance and finesse of California Chardonnays. Pale straw in the glass with a glimmer of platinum, the nose leans in with crisp apple and Meyer lemon with a hint of toasted vanilla. The refreshing acidity and minerality gives this wine a sense of class and style.

Our winemaking touch is light with the Bale Lane Sauvignon Blanc, as we allow the fruit to speak for itself. We fermented and aged just 10% of the juice in new French oak barrels (2% new); the remainder fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. A portion of the wine received lees stirring twice a week for three months, a technique that gives the finished wine a rounder, more pronounced texture and mouthfeel. The wine rested for three months prior to bottling. The 2014 Bale Lane Sauvignon Blanc layers fresh, tropical aromas of pineapple, papaya and nectarine with subtle blood orange notes. The fruit remains center stage on the palate with flavors of grapefruit and fresh pineapple. The flavors show generously, but remain elegant and balanced, and are further enhanced by a satisfying, creamy texture and long, fine finish.
