The impressive, deep ruby/purple-hued 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Steinhauer Ranch (one of the component parts of Beringer’s Private Reserve Cabernet) reveals scents of plums, anise, crushed rocks, flowers, and earth. This beautifully dense wine with moderately high tannins should be cellared for 3-4 years, and drunk over the following two decades.
This powerful Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon has wonderful red fruit aromas in the glass. It starts with some strawberry, cherry, raspberry, cherry cola, and black berry aromas. There is some underlying vanilla, clove, anise, and coffee notes as well. In the mouth are some green cherry, roasted chestnut, vanilla, clove, and chocolate covered coffee bean notes. The wine is intensely structured with powerful Howell Mtn tannins. The wine was aged in 53% new French oak for 19 months.
