This is Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc at its purest, opening with distinct notes of yellow apple, pineapple and barely ripe banana. A somewhat viscous texture carries the flavors of nectarines, orange blossoms and honeydews beautifully, and though there is no oak, the wine has a good sense of weight and flesh. With balancing acidity that keeps it crisp and snappy, the wine closes with a long lasting and satisfying finish.
Established in 1878, St. Clement Vineyards is located in St. Helena and has a long and vibrant history of producing boutique lots of high quality wines. Relationships with top independent Napa Valley winegrowers provide the foundation for St. Clement's wines, which reflect the diversity of both the vineyards and the growers who steward them. Winemaker Danielle Cyrot embraces the best of both traditional and progressive winemaking techniques, resulting in a collection of modern, accessible wines that strive for the ideal of quality without pretense.
VINTAGE & VINEYARDS
What will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the coolest vintages on record in Napa Valley began with a wet winter and spring that delayed bloom and disrupted fruit set, resulting in lower yields in many parts of the region. Cool temperatures delayed vine development by several weeks, a timetable that continued through the cooler-than-usual summer season. Few high heat events occurred at any point in 2011, and growers managed more open vine canopies to ensure sunlight, warmth and good air circulation around the grape clusters. The majority of the Sauvignon Blanc in this blend is from our Gamble Vineyard in the mid-Napa Valley region; a smaller amount was grown in our Bale Lane Vineyard just south of the Calistoga AVA.
WINEMAKING
Using a minimalist approach that serves to showcase the purity of the fruit, winemaker Danielle Cyrot let the grapes go through a cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks, then allowed the wines to rest in tank for approximately five months prior to assembling the final blend.
